A lawsuit was filed by Kathleen Firrantello in New York which names Kanye West, Method Man, Redman, and Common as artist who use Jazz samples from Joe Farrell without permission. The lawsuit claims that they rappers used samples from Joe Farrell’s 1974 recoding of “Upon this Rock.” Kathleen stats that the samples where used by Kanye West in “Gone,” Common in “Chi-City” and Method Man and Redman in their song “Run 4 Cover.”

Kathleen is seeking $1 mil in punitive damages and that no further copies of the songs be made, sold, or performed. Looks like the record labels have slipped up in clearing samples before they go to market.
