The critically acclaimed and Tony winning Broadway play, “Passing Strange” is getting a new lease on life via Spike Lee. The cable TV version will be filmed by Spike Lee and crew. “Passing Strange” has been doing ok but not great. Ticket sales have been low. Lee hopes that
capturing it on film will help it along in its struggle to get noticed. Although the Tony win on June 15 did boost weekly
box office into the higher end of the $200,000 range for a couple of
frames, for the week ended June 29, sales slipped to about $245,000, and audience capacity was only slightly above 50%.While the Hip-Hop play, “In The Heights” has enjoyed a big boost via it’s 2008 Tony Win with audience at 100%.
