Actress and comedian Wanda Sykes has revealed at one of the many No on H8 protest that she is a lesbian. She has been married to her partner for several years and felt that the voting for Prop. 8 to pass was an outrage and she took is very personally.

“Everybody who knows me personally, they know I’m gay. … I’m proud to be a woman, I’m proud to be a black woman and I’m proud to be gay.”

So who is next? Will and Jada? There are several rappers who should step on out of the closet…you know who you are…you read this blog.

Here is the footage from Wanda Sykes coming out. She also takes offence to the stories and rumors that Black voters made Prop. 8 pass. black voters in Cali. only make up 6% of the voting population there. So the rumors are un-true. But it’s made for lots of controversy and drama within the Cali. community as many Black supports of the LGBT movement are stepping their support away to focus on other pressing issues like increased HIV/AIDS rates amongst Black and Latino men, health care, and the economy.

Prop. 8 passed because the Cali. LGBT community was unwilling to step outside of their comfort zones in order to connect with other communities. They have yet to accept their own failure to get their message out and have failed to accept the short coming of their No on Prop. 8 campaign. Until they realize everything that was wrong they will continue to fail. There has to be a change in focus and strategy and leadership. The people running the show out there must stop using the civil rights movement as their guide. Things that worked back then will not work today. Protesting the Mormons, boycotting the Sundance festival, and other such nonsense is not going to do any good.

No one ever gets their rights by asking for them. People have to fight back against the bigots who violate them. Boycotting Utah, Marriott, Sundance, and other hateful and bigoted institutions and individuals is the only way lgbt people will ever get any real freedom and equality.

Passivity encourages bigotry, discrimination, and violence.
