No one made more noise in 2008 then Santogold with her breakthrough self titled album. This mixture of hip-hop, eletro pop, rock, and just about everything else is just 100% pure genius. With songs like Creator, Shove it, Anne, and L.E.S. Artistes, you can’t deny that Santogold has it all covered. I spent many a day at the gym listening to Creator. That songs just really gets me pumped up and in the mood to work out. If you have not listened to this album from front to back then you are missing out on pure gold.
2. Tha Carter III
I’m not the biggest Lil’ Wayne fan but you can’t deny that the man was on top of his game in 2008. Lil’ Wayne scored on the biggest selling Hip-hop albums of 2008 with Tha Carter III and “Lollipop” was on the top of all the charts. Lil’ Wayne is pretty much what Hip-hop is all about these days. By far “A Milli” was the HOTTEST song of 2008 and had so much fan fair that everyone had to record their own version of the song. It’s a testament to how much Lil’ Wayne has grown and progressed his music and style. Even though the album was leaked a few weeks early it didn’t stop Lil Wanye from selling over 1 mil. in his first week out. To date the album has sold 2.4 mil and is one of the best selling albums of 2008.
3. Britney Spears – Circus
The most highly anticipated album from Britney Spears lived up to the hype and did not disappoint her fans. I totally loved the album from front to back. Every track was off the hook and a dream. I’m ready for her to release more singles and more videos from this album. I’m super glad that Brit is back and is getting her life back together.
4. Keyshia Cole – A Different Me
This is my personal favorite album of the year. Keyshia Cole shows up her sexy and seductive side but keeps it very clean. But just about every song on this album is REALLY good and you can play it over and over again. It’s totally wonderful and probably the only album I would suggest everyone to go pick up.
5. Ne-Yo – Year of the Gentleman
My other favorite album for 2008 was Ne-Yo’s Year of the Gentleman. I just really could not stop playing Closer. It’s just a really fun song and great to dance to. I’m not sure why Ne-Yo’s album was abscente-Yo is trying to do something different in the music space today.
