“Jena Six” defendant Mychal Bell was rushed to the hospital Monday night after shotting himself in the chest with a .22 caliber pistol. Local news stations confirmed that Bell was taken to the LSU Conway Medical Center. The wound was reported as not life threatening and Bell will recover.
The shooting took place happened at the Monroe foster home where Mychal Bell has resided at since his release from jail in connection with the 2006 beating of a white student at Jena High School. The Jena Six receive much media coverage and support from millions across the work in their case. However, Bell’s foster family had to post bond following a Christmas Eve arrest on multiple charges, including shoplifting, resisting arrest and simple battery, related to an incident at Dillard’s in Pecanland Mall.
