One of my favorite all time plays is Ntozake Shange “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.”
I own the DVD of the original TV production which features a young Alfred Woodard and Lynn Whitfield. Well this masterpiece is going to get the Hollywood treatment as Lionsgate has secured the rights to the work and will turn it into a feature film. Music video director Nzingha Stewart has been tapped to direct the film.

It will be interesting to see who they cast in this movie. India.Arie was set to star in a Broadway version of the work but doe the the poor state of the US economy they play was put on hold. But maybe she will be able to pick up a role in this movie and help bring the work to life again. I could also see Erykah Badu in this movie has she has paid homage to the work in her “Bag Lady” video.
