Should BET’s Harlem Heights Stay or Go?

So BET’s Harlem Heights ended its season tonight. And we wanted to hear from all of our Twitter followers on what you all really felt about the show. But let me first say congrats to BET for trying something different and for trying to show a very positive side of Black culture in Harlem. But the best laid plans don’t always work out like you want them to. And while this was probably one of the better looking shows on BET we just really didn’t care about any of the characters.

The biggest character on the show should have been Harlem. But what makes Harlem what it is was totally missed from the show. Just like how New York was the 5th main character for Sex and the City, Harlem should have been the biggest character. The people, the places, and the new found energy of Harlem was totally lost in this show. The show just felt totally fake. Who are they people? The show turned to much about relationships and it didn’t feel real.

When we talked to Brooke about the show being scripted she stated “the show is not scripted. We are real people in real situations but at the end of the day we didn’t have time to wait for things to happen.” Hummmmmmmmmm….interesting.

Harlem Heights Events Not in Harlem = FAIL

Also a lot of the events around the show didn’t seem to take place in Harlem. Even tonights finale wrap event was hosted on 26th st at Helen Mills. Why wasn’t this done uptown. There are plenty of spots in Harlem that need our support and there is no reason for events around the show to be downtown. Know your market and support them 100% and we will support you back.

So today on Twitter I asked my followers to see what they thought of the show and if they wanted to see it come back. Here are some of the comments:

@glamgodess yes another season let’s get some more real Harlemites this time. I have a few names. Lol

@allymisslove yes I love Harlem Heights? Season 2 should be fun!

@goodreverenddr NO. Its one of those shows that falls under the Does it entertain us or just keep us entertained. Im good.

@MartiniPink yes. Because my friend produces it??? Is that good enough. LOL.

@Phaon Yes, I think it should be re-newed! It was a great show that show afro-americans doing their thing and working hard!

@queenkaye not unless they quit the drama and address important issues affecting harlemites and af-ams. the foolishness has got to go.

@ksmedia NO! Don’t renew cause the show is a lame carbon copy of the MTV show. Im a born and raised Harlemite that cannot identify with the show.

@FarsightedGirl No, Harlem Heights should not be renewed. There are enough self-involved, superficial reality shows. It’s tired.

Yes it should be renewed, from a totally different angle… some of the characters are boring… but they also have some interesting ones, they just need more of a time slot, more of a better story line…. dont forget all the characters on MTV's the hills became actors eventually, following half a scripted show with ease… they make some of the people on this show seem dumb…. Ashliee…. Christian seems hella dumb.. What sucks worse is half these people are not from Harlem! The problem is that there are too many of them, and not enough time to showcase it all.

I think your right Aryah and are on to something. There are to many cast members. If I had to pic I'd just follow 4 or 5 of them at the most. If they are to do this show again I would pick a whole new cast and probably keep just Brooke as the thread to tie the new cast with the old cast.

I liked the younger crew, Baldwin Hills better, they need to be a bit more mature to be college grads at height of their pursuit for success?
