Mariah Carey is ready to change the game with a new way to make money from her album. In addition to releasing a traditional CD, her new album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” will also feature a version that will include a full-color magazine with ad support.
According to information from Brandweek on Monday, Carey and label Island (IDJ/UMG) are planning to incorporate a 34-page booklet co-produced by Elle magazine.
The CD, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, will still have a price tag, but there will be plenty of ads from various luxury brands. That includes Elizabeth Arden, Angel Champagne, and the Bahamas Board of Tourism. Traditional liners notes will also be included, as well extras like articles about the singer and lyrics. Many of those elements will appear in the digital album version.
We are interested to see just how this new way to promote a CD will work. Will the Mariah Carey fans rush out for this collectible or will they be annoyed by ads coming with their music. We predict people will skip the magazine and go straight for the digital download.
