On Wednesday, August 28th, 2013from 11 AM EST until 4 PM EST, THE ROOT will commemorate the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington with a full day digital forum called the “#MarchON Twitter”. The sessions will feature experts, activists, and celebrities leading conversations on critical issues, including criminal justice, education and immigration, in a series of hour-long segments leading up to President Obama’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Utilizing Twitter as a platform, virtual civil rights marchers worldwide will participate with the hashtag #MarchON.
The event, streamed live on www.theroot.com , is designed to facilitate informative discussions, debate and calls-to-action related to each key issue using 21st century tools. This first of its kind event will advance the civil rights conversation and social justice agenda that Martin Luther King Jr. and others helped to push to the forefront of American society 50 years ago.
Interested media can observe the event using the #MarchON hashtag or via THE ROOT’s official account,@TheRoot247.
